Rafael Retana-Torres
I offer mainly snapshot photos of my life and those I’ve been blessed to live it with. Every photograph is of someone I have personally connected with; in either intimate ways (lovers, friends, chosen family members) or manners more fleeting (queer community members, leather bar denizens, friends of beautiful friends). These photographs reflect back both the community that I live in and the world that we collectively inhabit. Through joy, humor, and eros by way of our harsh, jagged reality.
I am inspired by the ever growing queer archives and aim to create photographs worthy of canonization.
Rafael is currently living in the Mission District with his partner and their 2 cats.
